Who is Matthew Rutler?

Rutler was born and raised in New Jersey. He started working in entertainment as a production assistant around 2009, working on movies like The Proposal, The Town, The Social Network, and Something Borrowed. Rutler is also a musician, according to Variety, playing guitar with the Nate Mott Band. He went on to work as an executive for MasterClass, which he founded via an investment company he shares with Aguilera. The singer has her own singing class on the popular education platform.

Rutler is very supportive of Aguilera’s music, even appearing in her video for her 2013 song “Let There Be Love.”

How did Aguilera and Rutler meet?

Rutler worked on Aguilera’s 2010 movie Burlesque as a production assistant. She was the film’s star. Aguilera was married at the time to her ex-husband, music producer Jordan Bratman. She filed for divorce in 2010. She and Rutler started dating casually soon after, but a few years later, a source told Us Weekly that it had “turned into something special.”

How long have Aguilera and Rutler been together?

In 2014, Rutler proposed to Aguilera on Valentine’s Day.

But they have seemingly not planned a wedding. In 2015, she told People, “Having just moved into a beautiful new home we call ‘the Sanctuary,’ having a baby, and now being so excited to get back to work [on The Voice], I have my hands full, and am not in a rush to set a date. I want to plan it and cherish the moment, while not feeling rushed.”

The couple welcomed their daughter, Summer Rain Rutler, in August 2014.

Aguilera shared a bit about their intimate life on the podcast Call Her Daddy in April 2023. The star was promoting her sexual wellness brand Playground. She revealed some places she and Rutler have enjoyed lovemaking.

“There’s the studio soundboard. I’ve been bent over there a couple times. It’s fun,” she said, playfully. “A plane can be fun, we’ve definitely hid some things under the blankets. … I can’t believe we didn’t get caught so many times in so many situations.”

On Valentine’s Day 2021, Rutler shared a video of them enjoying a helicopter ride on Instagram to celebrate Aguilera.
