At ELLE Women in Hollywood on Tuesday night in Los Angeles, Cameron Diaz took to the stage to introduce the cast of Emilia Pérez. Before our December 2024/January 2025 cover stars and honorees Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, and Karla Sofía Gascón accepted their award, the actress and entrepreneur suggested that the event, held in partnership with Ralph Lauren, Harry Winston, and TikTok, be televised. And fortunately, we have her remarks recorded on video.

“It’s such a breath of fresh air to be in the room where everything is about uplifting and connecting,” Diaz started, before continuing, “If people could see what is done and said and felt in this room…I think that we’re kind of holding ourselves in a really confined space, and this is the kind of conversation, these are the kinds of notions, and the thoughts that we need to share with the world to help them understand that women do shape this world. Women are, in fact, the ones who are going to change it.”

Diaz went on to honor the Jacques Audiard-directed Spanish-language movie musical by calling it “one of most audacious and original films that I’ve seen, ever.” She continued, “This film is a powerful exploration of identity, resilience, and the courage it takes to break free from the constraints of societal norms—patriarchal constraints, I might add. It is also a deeply human story about love and the journey to find one’s authentic self.”
