Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opens the Venice Film Festival this evening, and Jenna Ortega arrived dressed in an exquisite red tulle gown, marking a clear tribute to Lydia Deetz’s famous red wedding dress in the original film. Ortega plays Lydia’s (Winona Ryder) daughter in the sequel.

The actress’s Venice Film Festival dress was strapless with a red heart bodice and a full skirt. She accessorized with a diamond necklace and wore her hair up.

Ortega appeared at the festival earlier that day, wearing a sharp oxblood-red Paul Smith suit for the film’s photo-call.

Prior to Venice, Ortega also dressed on theme for the film in New York City. She was photographed on August 19 in a dark academia ensemble, featuring a Thom Browne white blouse, blazer, long plaid skirt, and a Handbag for the Recently Deceased purse. The custom Ozias Paris bag was a cheeky reference to the original film’s Handbook for the Recently Deceased.

That same day, she taped an appearance on The Tonight Show, where she wore a black corset minidress with rib cage-like silver chains draping from it.

Ortega spoke about how she was offered the part in the Beetlejuice sequel film in an interview with Vanity Fair. She had gone to Tim Burton’s house in California to meet him. “He just pretty much plopped a script in my hand, and it was Beetlejuice [Beetlejuice],” she said. She grew up obsessed with the original, although she conceded “the storyline kind of doesn’t make sense.”

Still, making the sequel was a dream for her. “Every time I walked onto that set, I wanted to remember it for the rest of my life,” she said.
