Just in time for Mother’s Day, Searchlight Pictures released the first poster for Nightbitch, a film adaptation of the Rachel Yoder novel of the same name starring Amy Adams. The film’s tagline reads, “Motherhood is a bitch.”
Here’s everything we know about the dark comedic thriller and its take on suburban domesticity.
What is it Nightbitch about?
The official logline states that Adams stars as a woman “thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, who slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine.”
So, yes, it is about a woman who thinks she’s turning into a dog.
Who is in the cast of Nightbitch?
Adams plays the main character with Scoot McNairy playing her husband. The rest of the cast includes Arleigh Patrick Snowden, Emmett James Snowden, Zoë Chao, Mary Holland, Archana Rajan, and Jessica Harper.
The film is directed by Marielle Heller, who also wrote the film adaptation of Yoder’s debut novel. Heller won an Independent Spirit Award for best first feature in 2015 for The Diary of a Teenage Girl, and she compared the projects when it was announced she’d be directing.
“Rachel Yoder’s book took my breath away,” said Heller. “I haven’t felt this way about a book since I read The Diary of a Teenage Girl many years ago. Rachel’s darkly hilarious tale of motherhood and rage made me feel seen. And adapting it with Amy Adams in mind has been the thing that has kept me going through the pandemic.”
Nightbitch is produced by Heller, Adams, Anne Carey, Sue Naegle, Christina Oh, and Stacy O’Neil.
When does Nightbitch come out?
The movie has a release date in theaters for December 6, 2024.
