Lily Gladstone made history at the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards last Sunday as the first Indigenous person to win the award for Best Female Actress in a Drama Motion Picture. At tonight’s Critics Choice Awards, we can’t wait to see what else is in store for her.

Gladstone arrived to the red carpet wearing a voluminous cobalt blue gown by Christian Siriano, styled with dangling earrings.

Gladstone is nominated for Best Actress at tonight’s festivities. Killers of the Flower Moon also received a nomination for Best Acting Ensemble. Marin Scorsese was nominated for Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay with co-writer Eric Roth. Rodrigo Prieto was nominated for Best Cinematography, Thelma Schoonmaker for Best Editing, Jacqueline West for Best Costume Design, and Robbie Robertson for Best Score.

After Gladstone’s historic Golden Globes win, the actress delivered a heartfelt speech.

“Hello my friends. My name is Eagle Woman. I am Blackfeet. I love you all,” she said in the Native Blackfeet language.

“I just spoke a bit of Blackfeet language, the beautiful community nation that raised me, that encouraged me to keep going, keep doing this,” Gladstone continued on in English. “I’m so grateful that I can speak even a little bit of my language, which I’m not fluent in, up here. Because in this business, Native actors used to speak their lines in English, and then the sound mixers would run them backwards to accomplish Native languages on camera.”

Gladstone then went on to dedicate her win to all of the Native children.

“This is for every little rez kid, every little urban kid, every little Native kid out there who has a dream, who is seeing themselves represented and our stories told by ourselves in our own words, with tremendous allies and tremendous trust with and from each other,” she said.
