After reigning over reality TV for more than a decade, Kim Kardashian is setting her sights on the world of scripted television. She’ll star in the 12th season of American Horror Story, in a role specifically written for her, opposite franchise favorite Emma Roberts. Halley Feiffer (American Crime Story, Dear Edward) will be the sole showrunner for this chapter of the long-running series from Ryan Murphy.
“Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the AHS family,” Murphy said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture. Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”
Murphy was reportedly impressed by Kardashian’s hosting gig on Saturday Night Live in 2021 and began talking about her role on AHS last summer, according to THR. Though further details remain a mystery, Kardashian shared the news on social media, surprising her millions of fans.
Here’s what else we know.
When does AHS season 12 come out?
AHS is expected to return in the summer. FX will reportedly announce the exact premiere date in June, per THR. Filming begins in New York later in April.
What will it be about?
Delicate is partly based on Danielle Valentine’s upcoming novel Delicate Condition, which will be published in August. According to its publisher Sourcebooks, it’s a thriller “that follows a woman convinced a sinister figure is going to great lengths to make sure her pregnancy never happens—while the men in her life refuse to believe a word she says.” One pull quote from author Andrea Bartz even describes the story as a “feminist update to Rosemary’s Baby.”
Who else will be in the cast?
Further casting announcements have not yet been made. Kardashian and Roberts’ roles also remain private for now. This does, however, mark a comeback for Roberts after a four-year hiatus from AHS. Her past seasons on the series include Coven, Freak Show, and Cult.
