Kylie Jenner may have worn a fake severed lion head on her dress to Schiaparelli’s haute couture show in Paris, but Doja Cat managed to one-up her by channeling Avatar and wearing head-to-toe red body paint. The singer posed outside in a red gown with a beaded skirt from the fashion house.

Makeup artist Pat McGrath wrote on Instagram about the process of creating the “ Doja’s Inferno” beauty look, meant to help evoke the feel of a live sculpture sitting front row at the show.

“Collaborating with the incomparably talented Doja Cat and Daniel Roseberry was an absolute pleasure,” McGrath said. “Her patience and dedication as she sat with Team Pat McGrath and I for four hours and 58 minutes to achieve the creation, covered in over 30,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals, was truly inspiring. The final product was a magical, mesmerizing masterpiece and a tribute to Doja Cat’s hard work and dedication.”

Doja has long been experimental with her style, going bold even when she was a kid. She reflected to ELLE about being called out by a middle school administrator when she was a tween for her “colorful, attention-grabbing themed ensembles, complete with tutus” that she wore to class. At the time, Doja favored Harajuku- and pirate-inspired looks.

“He was like, ‘Get that crap off of your face. Nobody wants to see that. Why do you dress like this? What’s the point of dressing like this? You’re such a distraction,’” she recalled. “I never liked the way I looked. I didn’t feel like I fit in. I felt like I stuck out all the time, and I didn’t like it. It was a strange time.” As an adult, Doja has embraced her risk-taking style—and clearly had no qualms being a scene-stealer in France today.
