Kate Middleton didn’t join Prince William in Balmoral when the Queen was under medical supervision and immediately after her death in part because the new Princess of Wales was taking care of her and William’s three children Prince George, 9; Princess Charlotte, 7; and Prince Louis, 4, on their first day of Lambrook School.
Despite their great-grandmother passing away on Thursday, the royal kids are still going to class, William revealed on Saturday. The Prince of Wales explained why he and Kate made that decision when the couple joined Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to do a walkabout outside of Windsor Castle.
Elaine Gee, a teacher from Wokingham, spoke to William about the royal kids and revealed to People what William told her about how he and Kate are navigating the loss of the Queen with their kids.
“I told him how I work at a school and how it’s been a strange year celebrating the Jubilee and now it’s all changed and we are talking about this,” Gee said. “He spoke about George, Charlotte and Louis, saying that they were trying to keep some sense of continuity for them at school and keep things as normal as possible.”
Gee also had a moment with Kate where she praised the Princess of Wales for her public composure despite the royal family’s great personal loss. “Catherine thanked me, and she said that all the nation were feeling it,” Gee said. “They were both very kind and gentle and genuine. It was very special—definitely a moment I will always treasure.”
The royal kids have not yet been part of any family outings following news of the Queen’s death. It’s not clear yet whether they will attend the Queen’s funeral next Monday. George and Charlotte attended Prince Philip’s funeral with their parents, though, making their attendance not out of the realm of possibility.
