BLACKPINK might be on a brief hiatus, but the signature chant of their name is still echoing around the globe. Luckily, the band, considered by many to be the biggest girl group in the world, is expected to reunite soon.
The quartet renewed their group contract with YG Entertainment in 2023 after wrapping their world tour, but Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé all embarked on solo projects under different labels. They won’t be apart for long; YG announced that the girls will be back together in 2025 with a world tour. Fans have been buzzing with anticipation for the comeback.
“Of course we’re continuing, for sure,” Lisa told ELLE for her 2024 cover story. “We’re so proud of BLACKPINK, and I love BLACKPINK. It is not just because of our fans, it’s for ourselves.”
During their time away, the members have been acting in front of the camera, posing on magazine covers, and working in the studio, with all four stars releasing, or set to release, their own music. Below, we roundup all of the girls’ solo projects, member by member.
Jennie
Jennie released her first solo single, aptly titled “Solo,” in 2018. Since then, she has taken on a plethora of personal projects. She had her first onscreen role in HBO’s The Idol with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp in 2023. “Acting needed all the creative senses that I would use in a music video or any music or any other thing that I have already been doing,” she told ELLE in 2022. “So surprisingly, it didn’t feel too much apart from what I’ve been doing so far, which was good.” She released an original song, “One of the Girls,” for the show, too.
At Coachella 2023, the star performed another single called “You & Me,” which was made available to stream shortly after. She appeared in the South Korean variety show called Apartment 404. Jennie has also been featured on a few tracks, including “Spot!” with Zico. She is a global ambassador for Chanel, a face of Calvin Klein, and a partner of Jacquemus. The star also has collaborations with Gentle Monster, Porsche, and more.
Now, Jennie’s debut album is coming in full force. She released the first single “Mantra” in late October 2024 and announced her debut album Ruby on January 21. The project is set to be released on March 7 and includes collaborations with Dua Lipa, Childish Gambino, Doechii, Kali Uchis, and more. She will perform at Coachella this April as a solo artist.
Jisoo
In March 2023, Jisoo dropped Me, which included two singles: “Flower” and “All Eyes On Me.” The following year, she created her own label, Blissoo. The star is set to release a new project on February 14, according to cryptic Instagram posts.
Jisoo is also has a strong relationship with Dior, becoming the face of their Addict lipstick in 2022. She has partnerships with Self-Portrait and Dyson and is a brand ambassador for Cartier and Tommy Hilfiger, as well. On screen, Jisoo is set to appear in South Korean romantic fantasy Newtopia and previously starred in the South Korean historical series Snowdrop.
Lisa
With time away from the group, Lisa lined up a variety of projects. Her first EP, Lalisa was released in 2021 with the hit “Money.” She also spent time recording her debut album Alter Ego, which is set to be released on February 28. The record has had three singles so far, including “New Woman” with Rosalía and “Rockstar.” It will be released under her own label, Lloud.
Notably, the rapper is also set to star in the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus. The fan-favorite television show travels to Thailand on February 16, with Lisa playing a hotel employee named Mook. Details of the production have been kept under wraps. To ELLE last September, Lisa commented on her acting abilities, saying, “It’s pretty new to me, but I think it’s similar to shooting music videos…I’m excited for my fans to see it. I feel like people are going to fall in love with Thailand even more.”
Lisa has had partnerships with Louis Vuitton and Bulgari, and released her own collection with MAC in 2021. She will be performing solo at Coachella this April.
Rosé
Fans received Rosé’s debut album Rosie last December on The Black Label, which is associated with YG Entertainment. The record spawned a hit in “APT.” with Bruno Mars, which hit No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album reached the No. 3 slot on the Billboard 200, making it an incredible success.
Before this release, Rosé had two solo singles in 2021, the more successful being “On the Ground.” She was named a global ambassador for Yves Saint Laurent in 2020 and for Tiffany & Co in 2021. She’s also an ambassador for Puma, and just starred in a campaign for Skims. In 2021, Rosé also appeared on Sea of Hope, a reality show in South Korea.
