Pop star Camila Cabello has had some very compelling public relationships, starting from a pretty young age. After all, she was only 15 years old when she started performing with Fifth Harmony. The singer told Latina in March 2017 that despite the spotlight, she has tried to keep the finer details of her romantic relationships to herself.
“I get why people are interested in my love life, but I don’t want to give people that piece of me because it is the most important part,” she said.
Here’s what is known abut Cabello’s dating history so far.
Austin Mahone
In summer 2013, Cabello met singer Austin Mahone at the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day event, according to a source speaking with People at the time.
“Austin caught Camila’s eye when they were both in New York for the MTV VMAs,” the insider said. “They met the day before at the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day and have been in touch ever since.”
They went on to tour together and began dating, but Cabello didn’t confirm the relationship until November 2014 while on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Fifth Harmony. Andy Cohen asked who the “Mahone girlfriend” was. She replied, “That would be me.”
But just a couple weeks later during an interview with 96.1 KISSFM, Cabello shared they’d split. She said, “We’re actually not together anymore. [It happened] just recently, but hey, things happen.”
A few days later, a Hollywood Life “source” claimed that they ultimately split because Cabello “wanted to tell people, and he wanted to keep it low key. When she revealed that they were dating, he accused her of using it to sell albums and she was hurt by that and they both decided to break up.”
Cabello and Mahone both appeared to respond to the gossip by denying it. Mahone wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “that’s the most ridiculous reason I’ve ever heard…Nothing like that even happened at all. Idk what source u guys talking 2.”
Cabello tweeted, “guys guys. nobody is the bad guy here and nobody deserves any hate. lots of love…goodnight.”
The singer seemed pretty level-headed about the end of the relationship. Later, there was a bit of drama when Mahone confirmed in April 2015 that he was dating Becky G. He told MTV, “Yeah, you could say we’re dating. We’re dating. It’s crazy, I never had, like, a real relationship before, so it’s pretty crazy. It’s great being in a relationship with someone that does the same thing you do. We understand each other; we understand what we do.”
Cabello tweeted, seemingly in response to his interview, “Damn … good to know.”
In the June/July 2015 issue of Seventeen, Cabello said of Mahone, “I don’t regret anything. It was my first kiss, my first love. It’s important to learn about liking somebody and being swept away, but it wasn’t meant to be.”
She added, “I’ll find somebody else…It’s a cycle. I love love. I’m, like, obsessed with it.”
Matthew Hussey
In February 2018, rumors circulated that Cabello had started dating life coach and author Matthew Hussey when they were seen in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In May 2024, Cabello shared a bit about the past relationship while speaking with Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast. She said she and Hussey met in 2017 on the set of Today. They went out to dinner that very night and were soon in a relationship.
In November 2018, Cabello told Marie Claire that she was “in love” with the author and felt “butterflies” when he came to see her shows.
“Any time he’s there, I get super nervous. I stutter or my hands are shaky,” she said. “It’s annoying, because we’ve been together for kind of like a long time now, but every time, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I have to talk now.’”
Cabello added, “He’s so similar to me. In person, we’re just weird and silly and stupid together. He makes me the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”
They attended the Vanity Fair Oscar party in February 2019, making their relationship red carpet official. Then in June 2019, The Sun reported they had split. A source claimed, “Camila’s relationship with Matthew had run its course, and they decided to break up about a fortnight ago…It was a mutual decision to end things. But they have spent a lot of time together over the last year and a half and want to stay friends despite going their own way.”
The report came just days after she released “Señorita” with Shawn Mendes, which featured a steamy music video that stirred rumors of them being a real-life couple.
In July 2019, Cabello told Clash magazine more about her breakup with Hussey, saying, “I feel like I can be much more honest with myself and other people because obviously I’m growing up, and I have a more grounded sense of who I am. I’ve fallen in love, and I’ve experienced life. I feel so much more alive now, and I don’t feel scared anymore.”
Shawn Mendes
Cabello and singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes were actually both tour openers for Austin Mahone, so their connection began in 2014. Their first song together, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” was released in November of that year. Fans noticed their chemistry right away, and in November 2015, they were already denying dating rumors during an appearance on The Late Late Show.
“Every time I make a move, she just swerves me off,” Mendes joked.
Cabello replied, “He friend zones me; he calls me kid!”
Later, the couple would share they started dating officially on the Fourth of July in 2019. At the end of August that year, they performed “Señorita” at the VMAs. They almost had an on-screen kiss.
In September 2019, Cabello spoke to ELLE about falling in love gradually with Mendes.
“Honestly, this past year and a half was the first time I really experienced falling in love with another person,” she shared. “I think there is so much more depth to love when you know you are in it with another person. You have so much more to say—I think that’s what makes me emotional. I’ve loved people from afar, but falling in love with someone and having feelings for someone but they don’t know…. It’s different.”
In 2020, the couple was living together and spending a lot of time alone throughout the COVID-19 lockdown. They even got a puppy named Tarzan. They also dressed up for a private Halloween celebration that October.
In November 2021, however, they announced their decision to split up.
“Hey guys, we’ve [decided] to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever ❤️,” they wrote in a joint statement. “We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward ❤️❤️❤️ Camila and Shawn.”
In a March 2022 interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily, Cabello shared more about the break up.
“My priorities have fluctuated and my focus has changed throughout my life,” she explained. “Those years that we were dating, I don’t even feel like, even while I was writing this album, and even still now, I guess, my focus is really on, How can I be a well-rounded person? And apart from my career, my focus wasn’t even on my career.”
In April 2023, the pair sparked reconciliation rumors after they were seen together at Coachella holding hands and flirting. But a source told Page Six, “Shawn and Camila remain friends with a lot of love and history between them, but they aren’t dating again. They’ve stayed in touch since their breakup and decided to meet up at Coachella since they were both going.”
For the next few months, they were spotted together off and on before things fizzled out that June. A source told People, “Shawn is still growing and discovering himself. He needs time to himself to do what makes him happy. He has a lot more living and learning in his future. The timing was wrong for Shawn and Camila.”
In a March 2024 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Cabello said of their brief reconciliation, “It’s crazy because I’m kind of impulsive in that way. If I feel it, I say it. I would rather say it and see what happens and then wake up the next day and find out that it’s been heavily documented. I opted for that route. It is what it is. It was a fun time; it was a fun moment.”
“I will always care about him and love him. He’s such a good person,” she added. “I’m lucky ’cause some people have exes who are awful, and he is not. He’s a really kind, good person.”
She also explained breaking up a second time “wasn’t even like a decision.”
“I think you’re just kind of like, ‘Yeah this doesn’t really…it’s not a fit—it doesn’t feel right,’” she explained. “Luckily, I was in a place in my life where…it took us both less time to be like, ‘This doesn’t feel right, and we don’t really need to try so hard to make it work. It’s all good, let’s move on.’”
Austin Kevitch
In June 2022, Cabello briefly dated the co-founder and CEO of the Lox Club dating app, Austin Kevitch, according to Entertainment Tonight. The CEO apparently asked mutual friends to set them up. They were seen at a few events, once holding hands in August 2022 in Los Angeles, and again sharing a kiss. They reportedly split in February 2023 due to busy work schedules. Kevitch’s dating app shared in a newsletter to subscribers that “Austin is single again.”
Henry Junior Chalhoub
Cabello started 2025 off with a new romance. On January 5, TMZ ran photos of her kissing businessman Henry Junior Chalhoub in St. Barts. Us Weekly reported that they met in November 2024 at an Elie Saab after-party in Saudi Arabia. Neither has spoken about the relationship yet.
