About a decade after their breakup, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield remain good friends—and they gave the public proof at last night’s Golden Globes. The former couple, who dated for over three years and parted ways in 2015, was photographed sharing a laugh on the red carpet. Stone’s husband, Dave McCary, was with them as they all talked. Photographer Greg Williams posted the candid moment on Instagram. It is the sixth photo in his carousel, which you can see here.
In December 2023, Garfield and Stone had a viral moment when Stone spotted her ex in the audience of her Poor Things premiere in London. She appeared to excitedly point to him.
Two years ago, Garfield discussed their friendship on a January 2022 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “Emma kept on texting me,” he said of his secret Spider-Man: No Way Home role. “She was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about!’ She was like, ‘Shut up, just tell me,’ And like, I honestly…I kept it going, even with her, it’s hilarious. And then she saw it and was like, ‘You’re a jerk!’”
In 2017, he spoke to Vanity Fair about his feelings for Stone even after their split. “We care about each other so much, and that’s a given, that’s kind of this unconditional thing,” he said. “And there’s so much love between us and so much respect.”
He added, “I’m her biggest fan as an artist. I’m constantly inspired by her work. I’m constantly inspired by how she handles and holds herself. So for me, I’ve—it’s been bliss to be able to watch her success and watch her bloom into the actress that she is. And it’s also been wonderful to have that kind of support for each other. It’s nothing but a beautiful thing.”
