Zendaya doesn’t miss a beat on the red carpets of Hollywood’s favorite ceremonies. Most times, the question isn’t whether the actress will serve a jaw-dropping look—that’s to be expected—but, rather, will she even show up? For the 2025 Golden Globes, where she was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her lead role in Challengers, she showed up, showed out, and showed off (an impeccably dazzling ring on that finger) no less.
Marking her return to the Golden Globes carpet—her first appearance at the event since 2016—Zendaya arrived in a burnt orange, off-the-shoulder gown with a sweetheart neckline and train, custom-designed by Louis Vuitton. However, it was her chin-grazing hair that stole the show, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Coree Moreno, who wanted to pay homage to old Hollywood glamour with a 2025 twist. Moreno’s mood board for the night included “vintage images and current images with period-specific styling. It is a full-on 1950s bombshell [look], but more deconstructed and playful,” Moreno tells ELLE.com.
The structured brunette bob was a far cry from the honey-blonde era Zendaya ushered in during her 2024 Challengers promo tour. To start her new year off right and make her 2025 red-carpet debut, healthy hair was of the utmost importance.
“We are kicking off the year with hair health at the forefront of the conversation. Zendaya really wanted to do a style with minimal heat, but one that lasted all night to complement the vibes, which was Hollywood glamour through and through,” Moreno explains. To adopt and morph the classic style into something fit for 2025, Moreno took it back to the basics with a wet roller set. Laying the foundation down, he used Nexxus Epic Shine Anti Humidity Spray and Volume Medium Hold Mousse before drying the hair under a hooded dryer. Next, to maintain any luster, Moreno removed the rollers and left the hair pin-curled to finish drying the hair using Ghd Helios Professional Hair Dryer at the coldest temperature. Once the hair was dried and voluminous, Zendaya had a new vision of the final look.
“We went through different options, but we wanted something that felt moody and dreamy yet soft and approachable. Zendaya gathered her perfectly waved hair into this [bob] shape that she, Law Roach, and I all loved, and I intuitively just pined and tweaked from there. Initially, we were going to go with her hair styled down, but [this looked best] with the neckline and jewelry,” he says.
Using minimal heat, Moreo smoothed any dents from the rollers and tamed flyaways using Ghd Curve Classic Curl Iron and fluffed the hair using round brushes. To maximize volume, he also incorporated two shades of Bellami Hair’s Silk Seam Clip-In Extensions in Chestnut Brown and Chocolate Brown—“cut to her exact length to seamlessly blend the look and add fullness,” he adds. From there, it was all about molding the bob into a “flame wave” and locking the curls in place using the Nexxus Comb Thru Flexible Hold Hair Spray.
The final look was an expertly waved bob that fell just along her jawline, adding yet another stunning look to her red carpet repertoire and the 2025 Golden Globes mount rushmore of beauty, which also included Emma Stone’s choppy pixie, Nicole Kidman’s bouffant ponytail, and, of course, Cynthia Erivo’s embellished stiletto nails.
