In November, Sharon Horgan’s popular show Bad Sisters debuted its second season on Apple TV+ and it’s still not entirely clear if the show will be continuing. In an interview for the release with ELLE UK, Horgan indicated she was open to it, saying, “I always said to Apple, if I can’t think of a good enough story, I’m not doing it. I was really interested in showing what happens next and great characters don’t come along every day.”
But when asked directly if she’d do a third season, Horgan answered, “Well, I don’t know. You’ve watched episode eight—it feels like an end.”
Here’s what we know about a possible third season for Bad Sisters so far. Some spoilers ahead.
Will there be a season 3 of Bad Sisters?
The first season of the show was released in August 2022, and it was not renewed again until November of that year. So, the fact that nothing has been announced yet doesn’t mean nothing will be announced. But just ahead of the season two finale, Horgan made similar comments to Deadline about it being an “ending.”
“Well, you know, I love those girls so much, and I actually enjoyed this season, making it, with all the hardships and terrible times,” she stated. “It was such an amazing cast… they all fit in so beautifully. My brain obviously had such a great time, but I feel like the ending is the ending. As sad as it is to say goodbye, the thing with this second season was that it had to be, the events of season two had to be fully impacted by what happened in season one.”
She continued, “These were always supposed to be ordinary women who an extraordinary thing happened to…These were always supposed to be ordinary women who an extraordinary thing happened to and how they dealt with it. And I didn’t ever want it to be a thing where just crazy shit kind of happens to them. It’s the actions of The Prick and his terrible legacy and how they deal with it and bad choices they make, but that can’t keep happening because otherwise, it’s Nancy Drew. It’s something else entirely.”
What would happen in a season 3 of Bad Sisters?
Bad Sisters follows five sisters: Eva, Ursula, Bibi, Grace, and Becka. The group bands together to murder Grace’s abusive and cruel husband, John Paul. In season two, they deal with the consequences. The first season finale reveals that it was Grace who struck the final blow.
Horgan’s comments to Deadline indicate she saw this story as an anomaly in the lives of the sisters, so it seems unlikely a third season would introduce something else quite so dramatic. But Horgan did love exploring a vision of womanhood not often portrayed on televison.
“We’re so conditioned to see a certain version of women on-screen and that’s because they were always written by men until relatively recently,” Horgan told ELLE UK. “I couldn’t believe that I was given the opportunity to show that dynamic on screen, especially through sisters who have that license to be awful to each other. Even physically. It was almost a safety net, as you could get away with more. It was such a gift.”
Who would star in season 3 of Bad Sisters?
The recurring cast would probably include the sisters: Sharon Horgan as Eva Garvey, Anne-Marie Duff as Grace Williams, Sarah Greene as Bibi Garvey, Eva Birthistle as Ursula Flynn, Eve Hewson as Becka Garvey. Then there is Jonjo O’Neill as Donal Flynn, Daryl McCormack as Matthew Claffin, Michael Smiley as Roger Muldoon, Saise Quinn as Blánaid Williams, Yasmine Akram as Nora Garvey, Barry Ward as Fergal Loftus, Fiona Shaw as Angelica Collins, Owen McDonnell as Ian Reilly Thaddea, and Graham as Una Houlihan.
