The rumors were true: Adele confirmed this evening in Germany that she and Rich Paul, the sports agent she has been dating since July 2021, are officially engaged. Adele revealed her new relationship status during a cheeky fan interaction at her Munich concert.
A video of her responding to a fan asking her to marry them during her Munich show spread on social media. Adele raised her left hand and responded to the fan, “‘Will you marry me?’ I can’t marry you because I’m already getting married, so I can’t.” (You can watch the clip on X, formerly known as Twitter.)
For years, Adele and Paul have been the subject of secret engagement and marriage rumors. The speculation reached a fever pitch at the end of July when The Sun ran photos of Adele wearing a new diamond ring. The outlet reported on July 25 that Paul had proposed to Adele earlier that month.
“Rich planned for the proposal to be in her hometown, and gave her an incredible four carat diamond ring,” its source claimed. “They celebrated with champagne at Chiltern Firehouse the following evening.”
Adele initially played coy about her relationship status during her August 2 Munich show. She told the crowd, “What’s going on in my personal life? Nothing because I’ve been getting ready for this.”
Still, the singer hasn’t hidden her hopes to someday marry Paul. In 2022, she told ELLE that her relationship with Paul is unlike any of her previous romances. “I’ve never been in love like this. I’m obsessed with him,” she said. She revealed that “yes, absolutely,” she would get married again following her previous marriage to Simon Konecki.
She then dodged engagement rumors, saying, “Well! Well. Well, I’m not married. I’m not married.” She playfully added while singing, “I’m just in loooove! I’m happy as I’ll ever be. I might as well be married.”
