What should I consider when buying a deep couch?
- Dimensions. First things first, co-founder and COO of Homebody, Shuang Liang, recommends carefully measuring your space. “A deep couch can dominate a room, so it is important to note not only the width and depth but also the height,” she says.
- Silhouette. Do you prefer a lofty couch or one that sits low to the ground? “Remember that seat depth and seat height are directly related and the deeper the sofa, the lower the seat height should be or comfort will be sacrificed,” explains Paulo Kos, vice president of design and development at The Citizenry. “Aesthetically, a low deep silhouette can lean more modern and relaxed while taller, shallower styles can be a bit more formal in look.”
- Cushion type. You want a couch that offers both comfort and durability. “Look for high-density foam or down-filled cushions and durable upholstery fabrics,” Liang advises. “If you like to sink in while also feeling a little bit of bounce and support, look for cushions that combine down and several types of foam. The down provides softness while the foam provides longevity and support, working together to provide the best experience.” Holben also offers this advice, noting that all of BR Home’s couches are made of down-wrapped foam.
