There’s nothing better than when Zendaya goes on a press tour—because it’s almost always a guarantee we’ll get some new amazing looks. There were out-of-this-world outfits when she was promoting Dune: Part Two, and now with Challengers, we’re getting preppy, tennis-inspired vibes.
On Monday, April 8, Challengers had its Italy premiere in Rome. Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, dressed her in a custom white Calvin Klein set, with of a side-slit maxi skirt and fitted blazer. To complete her monochromatic look, Zendaya stepped out in a pair of white stiletto pumps. She added sparkle with an assortment of Bulgari jewelry, including a snake choker necklace that wrapped itself around her neck.
Zendaya’s hair was swooped back into a low bun. Her makeup was bronzed and extra glowy.
For her ELLE cover last year, Zendaya described her role in Challengers as her “first time really being a leading lady, if you will.”
This film shows Zendaya like we’ve never seen her before.
“I felt like it was a good step into a more, I guess you could say, ‘grown-up’ role and into that next phase,” she said. “It was a little bit scary to take on, which I think is a good feeling. To be like, ‘Ooh, can I do this?’ You could run from that feeling and stay safe and comfortable, or you can go, ‘You know what, fuck it.’”
She also spoke about what it was like playing a character that she is so different from.
“I still don’t understand the decisions she makes, and we had so many conversations about the psychology of her and why she is that way,” she recalled. “What was important to me was that she was unapologetic about it. Sometimes characters who are messy and conflicted and wield power over other people are reserved for [actors] who don’t look like me, so when I get an opportunity to play a character like that, I’ma take it!”
