If you thought balletcore beauty was here to stay, Christian Siriano is shaking things up. Last season, Siriano leaned into the balletcore trend with blush-toned ribbons corseted through models’ hair and frosty pink eyeshadow on their lids. For the designer’s Fall/Winter 2024 show, however, Siriano is going in a new direction: futuristic.

According to Siriano, the collection was inspired by Dune (both the novel and the movie). The clothes featured draped metallics, jewel tones, and plenty of interesting textures like tinsel and tulle. The beauty looks took inspiration from this futuristic world as well.

Tresemmé partner and celebrity stylist Lacy Redway reflected Siriano’s new collection by creating “celestial box buns,” which offered an updated take on the sleek buns that have been dominating the current trend cycle. “I wanted to mirror the reflectiveness of the designs in the hair while also indulging in blunt and unique textures that make the look feel fun and futuristic,” Redway said. While backstage, she told ELLE.com, “We’ve be in ballerinacore for so long, I want to move past it.”

Redway blowdried the hair with the new Dyson Supersonic r, a lightweight addition to Dyson’s professional collection. From there, she pulled the hair back into a low ponytail and folded it into a square-shaped bun, tucking the ends in and securing it to the head with large bobby pins. Each model had a deep center part.

Redway didn’t stop there—she used the Tresemmé Mega Control Gel to assist with applying gold leaf into the model’s parts and along the top of each bun. “I’m hoping to see more decorative parts coming in the future,” Redway told ELLE.com backstage, noting that decorative parts can be a fun alternative to hair accessories or even jewelry. To match Siriano’s ultra-reflective clothing, Redway used the new Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Spray as a finishing touch before the models hit the runway.

To complement the otherworldly, futuristic buns, the Charlotte Tilbury Pro-Artistry team created ultra-reflective, champagne-soaked skin. Golden eyelids matched the gold leaf in models hair, and makeup artists used Hollywood Beauty Icon lipsticks in Icon Baby and Candy Chic to give each model a cool-toned pink lip.

Redway and the Charlotte Tilbury team have made a convincing case for futuristic beauty as a major trend to watch in 2024. This year, expect to see tons of metallics, unexpected updates to old favorites (like slicked-back buns) and a departure from the hyper-feminine aesthetics from 2023.
