Another week, another new show to binge in your free time. The newest title to add to your watch list? Expats. This Prime Video limited series is created, written, and directed by Lulu Wang, and is based on the internationally best-selling novel The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee. Lee also worked with Wang on writing the script for the show.

Expats follows three American women, Margaret (Nicole Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue), and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo) in 2014 Hong Kong. Their paths unexpectedly cross after a sudden tragedy. As Amazon Studios describes it, “the series interrogates privilege and explores what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred.”

Blue agrees. As she recently told ELLE.com, “What’s really great about the show is that Lulu doesn’t shy away from that conversation.”

Also in the cast are Chicago Med actor Brian Tee, playing Margaret’s husband Clark, and House of Gucci’s Jack Huston, who plays Hilary’s husband David.

This series is exclusive to Prime Video, so be sure to get a subscription to the streaming service if you plan on tuning in. (If you already have Amazon Prime, you should be all good to go.)
