The Renaissance is not over yet. Beyoncé’s seminal tour enters its next phase with a theatrical experience, which is officially out now. Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé already had fans flocking to cinemas with early showings last night; footage showed them dancing and singing along to songs from their seats, and they will continue to do so throughout opening weekend and likely into the holiday season. But is there any chance we’ll be able to jam out to the film from home?
The film is playing exclusively in theaters worldwide (tickets are available here), so fans will need to watch IRL for now. Plans to stream have not been announced yet, though platforms will surely be eager to host the film. It’s not like Beyoncé hasn’t done it before; her 2019 documentary, Homecoming, focusing on her headlining Coachella performance, is streaming exclusively on Netflix. And her 2013 film, Life Is But a Dream, didn’t premiere on streaming, but it did air on HBO. (It’s on Prime Video now.) Let’s also not forget the Lemonade film, which is still available on Tidal.
It’s possible that, like most films, Renaissance will become available to rent or purchase online in the weeks after its theatrical release. Taylor Swift, for example, just announced that her Eras Tour film, which hit theaters on October 13, will be available on demand starting December 13. Perhaps Beyoncé will make a similar announcement in the future, but in the meantime, we’ll have to experience her greatness on the big screen. If you ever needed an excuse to re-wear your Club Renaissance outfit, this is it.
