Miley Cyrus’ song “Flowers,” released on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s birthday, may be about him, but that doesn’t mean his family members don’t appreciate a catchy song when they hear one. His older brother Chris Hemsworth’s wife Elsa Pataky spoke on the Ana Rosa Show about actually loving the song. A Miley Cyrus fan account shared an English translation of Pataky’s Spanish interview quote, where she admitted to being a fan of the song.
She deferred questions about Cyrus and Hemsworth to Liam Hemsworth himself, saying in Spanish, “For us, it’s a bit of a past story, that’s the life she has and what she does.” She added his and Cyrus’ relationship was Hemsworth’s business and his story to speak on, not hers.
Of the song itself, she said, “I admire the song, I love it, I have listened to it and it is very good.”
Pataky and Cyrus were close during Cyrus’ relationship with Hemsworth. The two women got matching tattoos in 2016. After Cyrus and Hemsworth’s divorce, Pataky commented to Hola! on it in November 2019, saying, “My brother-in-law, well… After a relationship that you’ve dedicated 10 years to, he’s a little bit down, but he’s coping well, he’s a strong boy and he deserves the best, I think he deserves much better. You always find support in your family, and he’s joined at the hip with his brother, who has been there to give all the strength he needed.”
Ultimately, Hemsworth went on to date Gabriella Brooks in December 2019, whom he is still seeing.
Cyrus herself hasn’t confirmed or denied “Flowers” is about Hemsworth. But she did celebrate its continued chart-topping success on her Instagram, one month into its release.
“Happy 1 month anniversary of Flowers!” Cyrus wrote on February 13. “To still be celebrating #1 on the Hot 100 & around the world is phenomenal. With Valentines Day coming up tomorrow this song feels even more meaningful to me. I hope this holiday is filled with the joy of honoring LOVE in all of its forms. It’s human nature to want to give & receive it. Sharing your love is special but it’s always important to save enough of that love for yourself. YOU are enough anything more is just extra. 💋 Thank you for another incredible week. I LOVE YOU. ❤️🌹”
