On Friday, Olivia Rodrigo headed to Bowery Ballroom in New York City for a show wearing a short black satin dress with lace detail forming the cups of her bust along the low cut neckline. The short skirt ended high above the knee, showing off her long legs, and she paired the outfit with chunky black loafers over a pair of white crew socks.

The pop star was at the Bowery Ballroom to see musician Chappell Roan perform with a group of friends. Rodrigo left her long brunette tresses down, and carried a leather bag over one shoulder. Her makeup was in a natural palette with a pop of color, a bright red lip. She smiled as she walked by photographers and stopped to sign some autographs for fans.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Rodrigo will be inducting Alanis Morisette into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame on September 24 at Toronto’s Massey Hall. In statement to the organization, Rodrigo talked about the influence that Morisette had on her as a musician.

“I remember hearing Alanis for the first time when I was about 13. I was in the car with my parents when Jagged Little Pill came on,” she said.

She continued, “I heard ‘Perfect’ [and] I was like, ‘Oh, my God… You can write songs like that?’ I just looked at music and songwriting in a completely different way.”

Other artists inducted alongside Morissette this year are Bryan Adams, David Foster, Jim Vallance, and Daniel Lavoie. Canadian musicians Alessia Cara, JP Saxe, and Ruby Waters are scheduled to perform tributes to Morissette’s music.

The two singer-songwriters interviewed one another for Rolling Stone‘s Musicians on Musicians issue. Morisette’s album Jagged Little Pill is themed around a big break up, as is Rodrigo’s album Drivers License. They have a lot in common, including the fact that they don’t read anything about themselves.

“Somewhere around 22, I stopped reading everything because it wasn’t really relevant to my personal growth and evolution,” Morissette told her younger protégé. “I had enough people around me who would point out blind spots whether I wanted them to or not.”
