Former President Barack Obama, 60, announced Sunday on Twitter and Facebook that he “just tested positive for COVID.” He shared that he had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but is feeling fine otherwise. His wife and former First Lady Michelle Obama, 58, tested negative. According to CNN, Obama recently returned to Washington, DC, where he tested positive, after spending much of the winter in Hawaii.

Obama said that he and Michelle are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted. The Obamas got vaccinated in March 2021 and have encouraged others to get their COVID shots as well. Obama said in the Facebook caption for this vaccine PSA he did with other former presidents, “Michelle and I got vaccinated against COVID-19 because we know it’s the best way to beat this pandemic, protect one another, and get the country back up and running again. So I hope you’ll get the vaccine as soon as it’s available to you. It could save your life.”

Obama took this opportunity, yet again, to encourage those who haven’t yet been vaccinated. He said on Twitter, “It’s a good reminder that, even as cases go down, you should get vaccinated and boosted if you haven’t already to help prevent more serious symptoms and giving COVID to others.”
