Call it ringarde or call it genius, but there’s no denying Emily Cooper and her bucket hats have cast a spell over pop culture in the year since Emily in Paris first hit Netflix. The zany wardrobe by iconic Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field and French costume designer Marylin Fitoussi quickly became the subject of rigorous devotion and debate following the show’s rise to the Netflix top 10. Say what you will about Emily’s shaky grasp of French culture, but at least she knows how to catch someone’s eye at le supermarché.

With season 2 finally dropping just before Christmas, all eyes are on what Emily and her pals—Mindy, Camille, Sylvie, Gabriel, Julien, Luc, and co.—are wearing. To get the inside scoop on this season’s costume closet, Netflix gave ELLE.com an exclusive, early sneak peek at what’s to come. Watch the full clip below.

Not only do we get a glimpse at some season 2 outfits—I’m particularly partial to Camille’s Balmain jacket—but the cast members themselves drop a few hints about how they’ll be dressed. “There’s an elevated, slightly Parisian flair about what [Emily] is wearing this season,” says actress Lily Collins. “We all have such a specific aesthetic, and I love it. When we’re all together, you really see like a symphony of design.”

But adds Fitoussi, “I didn’t want in season 2 for Emily to become too chic. Emily being too chic or too French would have meant that her personality was no longer as strong.”

To give Emily’s style the unusual quality that makes it sing, Field says she turned to new colors and accessories, such as a pair of fingerless yellow gloves. “It was very important for me for season 2 not to repeat season 1,” she says. “I wanted to show our audience some new ideas…I wanted to introduce these gloves that I personally enjoy wearing. Gloves were from a bygone time, and today the only reason we wear gloves is to stay warm when it’s cold. So it’s a new accessory, in a way, for this generation, but it’s a young accessory.”

Fitoussi summarizes the season 2 spirit thusly: “My motto this season has been, ‘Too much good taste can be boring.’” As Netflix gears up to release all 10 episodes of season 2 on December 22, we’re already keeping tabs on what looks we want to shop. Forget taste; let’s have fun.
